I’ve struggled with an anxiety disorder called depersonalization/derealization causing me to feel separated from reality. It forces severe questioning of one’s existence as well as perpetuating the world as an unfolding nightmare. Although I wish this disorder on no one, I believe the existential depth I’ve been forced to explore has given me a great gift. We don’t have an answer to our existence, but it’s essential to explore this question. It allows us to embrace life fully, not just on a surface level, and I feel strongly the unreachable can be reached through the medium of film.
As a longtime lover of thriller films, I felt compelled to write a story driven by that burning question,
“What will happen next?”
Much like the film “Get Out,” I’ve used the genre to ease the audience into important concepts and ideas that we shy away from in our day-to-day lives. I want to walk the audience down a familiar path, allowing them to enter a supernatural journey searching for the meaning of life with Agustin.
This is a crucial time to present original stories and ideas to an audience. Within each one of us lies a thirst for some greater truth. Although these questions inevitably are unanswerable, I believe “The Ink of Creation” uncovers something deep within us waiting to be revealed.
